Tips for dealing with annoying co-workers when pregnant?

every1lovesamixedgirl asked:

I am 36 weeks pregnant, and have a had a pretty normal pregnancy. One of my co-workers is also a pregnant, about a month behind me. She is 36 years old, smokes, drinks, and uses marijuana-she also had to have a cerclage (stitch on her cervix) because she started to dialate at 27 weeks. My feelings are that it’s her body and her baby, so if she wants to potentially do harm, then it’s her problem. However, she constantly belittles me for not doing those things and for taking care of myself by eating decent foods and drinking water rather than pop or sugary drinks all the time. I am not perfect, by far, and I don’t pretend to be. I have tried to ignore her because I know I’m doing what is right for myself and my baby. I don’t usually speak to her, but she’s started butting in on conversations I have with our other co-workers. I only have a week and a half before my maternity leave starts, but this chick is getting on my last nerve and I’m soooo close to losing it on her. Any suggestions?

It may be time to stamp your feet.

The next time she comes up to you, unload both barrels.

“BUTT OUT!”

Just tell her. She chooses her kind of lifestyle and you will choose your own. She probably belittles you because she knows what she is doing is wrong.

Good luck and congrats!

Just try to remember how much better you are than her. You are doing all the right things, and you are much bigger of a person. Everytime she says something just remember that.
There is also nothing wrong with telling her what you told us. What she does is her business, but to not but in on your life. You can make decisions for yourself.
That’s all you can do, and wait it out…
Good luck

I don’t know what to tell you other than maybe just tell her how you feel. Thing is it doesn’t sound like she’s going to care how you feel or what you think. Look at what she’s doing to her own baby! I would try not to let her bother you. It causes you and your baby undue stress. It’s not right.
My brother was born with SERIOUS defects because my mother did the same thing. She’s going to kill that baby.
I would just try my best to stay away from her. She’s not worth your anger or stress.

It sounds like she is feeling guilty for the things she has done or is doing. She’s trying to make you feel as bad as she does. I would just try to avoid her. You only have a week and a half left to deal with her. Then you will have a healthy baby to tend to. She can only pray that her baby doesn’t have problems directly related to her actions.

That is such a hard one. I have a problem with women who smoke and drink while pregnant. I was scared to death when I found out I was pregnant. In my first month I killed two bottles of champagne in one night. I was terrified it would hurt the baby. But all I can say is that if she come’s up to you and starts talking to her, walk away, or tell her to leave you alone and not to talk to you ever. She will learn her mistakes when her baby is born with defects and the child will have to live with it’s mothers mistakes it’s whole life. I feel sorry for the child.

Simply tell her to mind her damn business. I understand that u don’t have much longer before your maternity leave kicks in, but what the heck. Some people just need to be told. Let her know that what she decides to do with her body will pregnant and what u do with your body is your business. Since she is pregnant also, this may go on forever while u work together on different topics concerning children. So nipe it in the bud right now, then she will know not to tell u anything about your child later on.

tell her you appreciate her concern for the way you do things, but you will decide what you think is best. I hate this stuff to. I am pregnant ans all my family can do is tell me how to do things. I mean come on, like they are doing all the work lugging around a huge baby. Just let her know that you are glad she is pregnant to, but let her know your pregnancy’s are very different. Mabey you can just leave her a note, so that there is not a scene so that no one is embarrassed.

good luck

it’s the hormones. I hate everyone at work and every little co-workers bad habit noises is bugging the F**** out of me!

I have a co-worker that is due a week before me and she is still smoking. I’m a previous smoker. I quit when we started TTC.

I’d just ignore her. Poor child of hers. If she had a stitch, I’d think she’d have to be put on bedrest or part time bed rest. Everyone i know that had a stitch was on some type of bed rest. she’s probably lying.

When you see her coming, walk the other way. There is nothing you can say to this woman that will make her desist in her attitude toward you. There is also nothing you can do about her ignorance in what she is doing to herself and her baby. You could hit her with a remark about how you will at least have a healthy baby, but that would be sinking to her level. She will most likely not get it anyway. You could tell her your eating or any other habits are none of her business. You can’t involve yourself in her world, ask her for the same courtesy. remove yourself from her vicinity as much as possible. You only have a week and half to go. if you are lucky, she will be gone having her baby when you get back. Congrats on your baby.

Actually, you’re wrong about something: It is not her “right” to drug her unborn baby. It is criminal, if the baby has illegal drugs or alcohol in his/her system at birth. I would report the mother to CPS. I don’t understand people who sit idly by and foster child abuse!!

This woman at your work is a waste of flesh and a leech. She’s delberately causing physical and mental damage to a child. Then she’s going to require taxpayer services to help clean up her mess. After you exercise your OBLIGATION to report her, she should be easy to diffuse. You could simply say, “I don’t accept parenting advice from child abusers.” The truth is the truth; you didn’t create it, you just pointed it out.

As far as being annoyed: Get used to it. It gets worse when you’re a new mom and everyone, including the ladies in line at the grocery store, want to give their two-cents’. Take what applies and graciously thank the others. Understand that even strangers want to share in the joy of a new life.

Just be sarcastic with her. When she says “It’s bad to drink soda while youre pregnant” … reply “Not as bad as smoking pot”

First of all, big cyberhugs for you and your baby! I’m so glad to hear you care about what’s best for the two of you. Secondly, I would not put up with what sounds like a very mentally ill pregnant woman behaving very abusively. For the sake of you, your baby, and especially her baby, you NEED TO REPORT her. This is the only right thing to do. You need to tell your boss and her boss about it (because it’s workplace harrassment), and you also need to call child protective services (because it’s child abuse). I’m am absolutely serious about this! Don’t feel guilty for not doing it sooner, just do it now! If you need more convincing, then just put yourself in her place. What if you were so sick in the head that you were behaving the way she is. Wouldn’t you want someone to care about your unborn child enough to force you to stop and get help? Well, there you go!

Finally, you have my sincere best wishes for a happy healthy baby!

Tell her that when her baby comes out with drugs in it’s system and CPS takes her baby away from her, you’ll be the one with the last laugh.

That should at least piss her off and get her to leave you alone for the next week and a half.

I agree with some of the other answerer’s. Tell her that you are different people and are choosing to do things differently. Then say something like, “well, the baby has got to go pee…you know how it is with the baby…seems like I spend all day in the restroom.” Then you’ve avoided any more conversation…I use this method a lot at work.

If possible make her aware of the hazardous effects on the foetus for her regular intake of pollutants which have an adverse effect even on her body. Please be away of all the hazardous things . Drink more water , take advice of the Gynaeclolgist and follow strict diet schedule . You are going to be a best Mother if u take care of urself and the baby . You will be an Angel Mother.May God bless u and all ur wishes come true.

First off you are at the end of your pregnancy and “your hormones are raging”. So you can unload on her and have a great excuse.

The next time she comes up and starts saying things to you, just look at her and say something like, I love my unborn child more than anything and I am doing what the doctor told me to in order to increase the babies chances of being born happy and healthy.
I haven’t belittled you for your choices and I would appreciate it if you would stay off of my back because I want a healthy baby.

When she comes up and butts in on your conversations just look at her and say “excuse me, we talking about you not to you”. That should get her to leave you alone for a little while.

If she gets angry, don’t worry about it, you will be leaving in a few days anyway.

Keep thinking, “I’ve only got a week and a half! Yay!” When she butts into conversations, be prepared with an answer, like “I’m doing what I think’s best for me and my baby. Everyone’s different, let’s just choose not to have this conversation anymore, okay?”

I hate being pregnant when there are other pregnant women in the office. Everyone IS different, and the really opinionated ones will ALWAYS single you out and make your life miserable.

I somewhat disagree with the responses regarding “just going off” and making a scene and blaming hormones. This gives pregnant women a bad rap, and it’s hard enough for us in the workplace in the first place!

Good luck, and best wishes for your new baby!

Your horomones have you on edge more than likly this kind of stuff doesn’t normally bother you right. She is feeling guilty about her own behavior and the only way for her to feel better is to make you feel or look bad. Kill this person with kindness I know it sounds crazy but trust me it will make her so uncomfortable she will back off you. When she makes a comment about you not drinking soda and such offer her a bottle of your flavored water and tell how good it is and that you were lucky to find something that tasted so good that your baby can enjoy. If she makes comments about your lifestyle, just make a comment about how you are only doing what any good mother would try to do for her baby. Leave her messages about good child birth classes and tell her about store that have maternity ware or baby items on sale. If you are nice and everyone else sees it then she comes off even worse rigt now you are feeding into her, avoid her and don’t worry you won’t have her to deal with much longer than you will have a lovely baby to distract you from people like her. Good Luck and hang in there.

Just smile a big smile. This will disarm you and her. Then say to whoever you were speaking with, “Did you read that new article on how smoking while pregnant is correlated with higher rates of hospitalization for substance abuse and arrests?” Or maybe just hand her a pamphlet on how smoking and alcohol affects an unborn child. Then smile some more, knowing you are right and she is way, way wrong.
